To be effective you need to use the right kinds of brush strokes on the right parts of your teeth. Most people, however, probably don’t brush for the required length of time. Dentists say that you need to brush for at least two minutes each time you do it. Use a forty five degree angle when you brush your gum line. The goal is to loosen up and get rid of any food particles that might be there. When you are working at the gum line, be more gentle and careful with the amount of pressure you exert so you do not damage the gum. Take a little bit of time when you brush so you do not hurry, and always lightly brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth, too.
It is a sad fact that living in Western modern culture that we are exposed to such a large amount of foods that have a very high sugar content. It is also true that there are more people who eat too much sugar. We get more cavities because we are always forcing our teeth to deal with more sugar than they should ever have to deal with. It is important, then, for us to work hard to consume less sugar by choosing snacks that don’t contain it. At least try to work some in there somewhere. After you eat sugary substances, it is a good idea to rinse out your mouth with water. You could also reduce the sugar by chewing sugarless gum or do both things.
The number of people who subject their teeth to too many cavity causing drinks and foods is staggering. People who want healthier smiles need to take regular and reliable preventative measures to protect their teeth.
